Earwax is a naturally occurring substance produced by glands in the ear canal. Typically it protects the inner ear by trapping dust and debris, and preventing infection. However, when wax accumulates beyond normal levels, it can cause symptoms such as hearing loss, earache, tinnitus, and even dizziness. Ear wax impaction is an important issue to resolve. Call us at 609-710-6673 to find out how we can create a unique treatment plan for you!

Ear Wax Impaction Causes

There are many causes for ear wax impaction. Some people naturally produce more ear wax than others, while others have a narrow ear canal and the wax may have difficulty leaving. Aging and skin conditions also influence impaction. Another way for ear wax to build up is by items being inserted in the ear, such as prolonged use of ear buds. Another popular item is cotton swabs used to try to clean the ears. This can inadvertently push ear wax further into the ear canal, causing impaction.

Ear Wax Impaction Symptoms

Ear wax impaction has many symptoms associated with it. These can be very disruptive to everyday life, so it is important to treat it. Impaction symptoms include:

– Earache

– Hearing loss

Tinnitus

– Itching or irritation

– Dizziness or vertigo

– Feeling of fullness in your ear (similar to when water gets trapped in the ear after swimming)

Dr Smith is AMAZING! If you’re having any ear issues at all, call his office. I had a clogged left ear and he vacuumed it out, clearing my ear drum completely of built up ear wax. He also did my right ear as well. My ears have never felt more clear! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Dr. Gregory Smith is the best ENT I’ve ever seen. After years of disappointing experiences with other ENTs, finding him was a relief. His staff is amazing too. I’ve never experienced a more responsive team. Wait time was minimal from the responses to my questions in the app to my actual office visits. Dr. Smith removed a cyst from my ear canal—something I was very nervous about knowing how little space there is in the ear canal. Dr. Smith was incredibly understanding and reassuring, and he made me feel completely comfortable. The procedure went smoothly, and he successfully removed the entire cyst and sac. Beyond his skill, Dr. Smith is a warm, caring, and sincere physician. He is honest, highly knowledgeable, and has a truly comforting bedside manner that immediately puts you at ease. If you’re looking for the VERY BEST ENT, I highly recommend Dr. Gregory Smith. THANK YOU DR. SMITH!

I am so, so grateful for Dr. Undavia’s expert job on my otoplasty (ear pinning) surgery. He understood all of the little nuances and concerns I expressed, like worrying that my ears would look unnatural after the procedure, and made sure to take them into account. I am truly happy with how my ears look now and every visit with Dr. Undavia was a pleasure. Can’t recommend him enough.

Dr. Gregory Smith saved me. I had been suffering with ear problems for a decade. After seeking help with many doctors, I was misdiagnosed and lead to believe my problems were in my head. Dr. Smith listened and validated all of my issues. He correctly diagnosed me with Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. He performed the "balloon" surgery about 1 year ago and my issues are solved. I am so relieved that I can function normally again. I can't thank him enough. He was patient and caring. His staff is helpful and courteous. If you are experiencing any ear problems I highly recommend him. Dr. Smith is the BEST.

I met with Dr Smith to discuss my ear issues regarding the pain and discomfort I was experiencing. After a thorough exam and additional testing, Dr Smith determined Eustachian tube dysfunction in my left ear. Also, my right ear showed beginning signs too. The solution to perform the Eustachian Tube Dilation was explained to me in great detail. Dr Smith offered the procedure in-office and I was relieved to finally have my problem fixed. The procedure was uncomplicated and I healed completely. I had full confidence in Dr Smith and appreciated his expertise.

Great service. I never worry about time wasted, they listen to my problem and fix it. With my small ear canals when water gets in my ear wax build up becomes impossible They have great tools to help remove all the wax build up that impacts my ear. My hearing always returns once wax is gone. Always feel better walking out then coming in.
