REVISION RHINOPLASTY (NOSE JOB)
Revision Rhinoplasty is a procedure for correcting the deficiencies of a previous rhinoplasty. Revision Rhinoplasty can be used to repair nasal deformities, reduce scarring or revive an unsatisfactory aesthetic outcome from a prior surgery.
Reasons for Revision Rhinoplasty Surgery
Revision Rhinoplasty can correct a range of issues, including structural problems related to previous surgery, breathing difficulties due to septal deviation or an overly large turbinate, asymmetry, irregularities in shape or size, and more. Revision Rhinoplasty offers patients hope even after they have experienced a less-than-desired outcome from prior rhinoplasty surgeries.
A Revision Rhinoplasty procedure should be performed only by an experienced facial plastic surgeon with a deep understanding of the complex anatomy of the nose like our doctors here at NJ ENT. Revision Rhinoplasty can help restore balance and harmony to the face, while also restoring confidence in patients who may have felt dissatisfied following their initial rhinoplasty. When done correctly, Revision Rhinoplasty can provide natural-looking results that are durable over time.
Rhinoplasty Consultation
Our doctors at NJ ENT will examine both the inside and outside of your nose during your rhinoplasty consultation. Once the nose has been examined and the issues from the previous nose surgery assessed, we will discuss any additional needs to fix both the function of the nose as well as the structure.
Revision Rhinoplasty Procedure
Revision Rhinoplasty typically requires more complex techniques than primary rhinoplasty, as Revision Rhinoplasty is often needed to correct issues arising from previous surgeries. Revision Rhinoplasty may include grafting new tissue to the nose or using sutures and other tactics to reshape the external structure of the nose. Revision Rhinoplasty can also address breathing problems associated with a deviated septum or enlarged turbinates.
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and on an outpatient basis. Cartilage may need to be replaced or repositioned to help achieve the best possible results. An external nasal splint is placed to help protect the nose for 5 days. If there are external sutures, they will also be removed in 5 days following surgery.
Revision Rhinoplasty Recovery
After Revision Rhinoplasty surgery, it is important to follow our post-operative care instructions carefully. It is recommended that Revision Rhinoplasty patients take pain medications as directed, avoid strenuous activities or exercise for at least four weeks after surgery, and use cold compresses on the nose area to reduce swelling. Patients should also keep the head elevated while sleeping and keep the nose free of dust, dirt, and debris to reduce the risk of infection. Revision Rhinoplasty patients should also be aware that some residual swelling may persist for several months after surgery, but this typically subsides as healing progresses.
The recovery period after Revision Rhinoplasty surgery is typically longer than it is for a primary rhinoplasty procedure due to the complexity of correction involved in Revision Rhinoplasties. Patients should expect some swelling and bruising, and may need to use a splint or bandages for two to three weeks after Revision Rhinoplasty.
