SINUS INFECTIONS (SINUSITIS)
Sinus Infection Symptoms
Sinus infections or sinusitis are an inflammation of the sinuses. Sinuses are air-filled cavities in the skull that are connected to the nose. They help to filter out bacteria and other particles from the air we breathe. When these sinuses become inflamed, they can produce excess mucus, which can lead to sinus infection symptoms such as congestion and sinus pain. Sinus infections can be caused by a number of things, including allergies, colds, and even environmental factors such as smoke or pollution.
If you have sinus infections, you know how miserable they can make you feel. Sinus infections can cause headaches, congestion, and sinus pain that can make it tough to get through the day. But sinus infections don’t have to ruin your life. There are a few things you can do to help relieve your symptoms and get rid of your sinus infection for good.
Sinus Infection Prevention
There are a few things you can do to help prevent sinus infections. First, try to avoid exposure to things that can trigger sinus infections, such as smoke, pollution, and allergens. If you do have a sinus infection, it’s important to get treatment right away to prevent the infection from getting worse. Finally, make sure to practice good hygiene by washing your hands often and avoiding touching your face.
Treatment of Sinusitis Infections
Home remedies for sinus infections can include using a saline nasal spray to help clear out the sinuses and reduce congestion. You can also take over-the-counter medications such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen to help relieve pain and inflammation. If your sinus infections are caused by allergies, you may also want to try taking an antihistamine to help reduce your symptoms. If home remedies don’t seem to be helping, it’s time to see a doctor. Your doctor can prescribe antibiotics to help clear the infection, and they may also recommend other treatments such as corticosteroids to help reduce inflammation.
Chronic Sinusitis
Sinusitis is a common problem among Americans, affecting over 37 million each year. Acute sinusitis can often be resolved fairly quickly, chronic sinusitis usually requires more aggressive treatment. If medical management fails and sinus infection symptoms persist for longer than 12 weeks, various in-office procedures or surgeries can be considered for chronic sinus infections. Some of the those offered here at NJ ENT include Sinus Surgery, Concha Bullosa Reduction, Balloon Sinuplasty, ClariFix, Vivaer, RhinAer, and Turbinate Reduction.
